  1. Saturday 21st March 2015
This was a 30th presant for me and I loved every minute.
We met Chris at the car park and walked to the engine. We started off cleaning the boiler tubes, and he explained how it all worked. I then light the fire and Chris explain the best way to light it and when and what to put on. We then waited for the steam to rise and we had a chat about the engine.
We then had a practice run in the yard before lunch which was bacon and eggs from the shovel. He also brought us cheese and biscuits.
After lunch we both had a drive to Newby Bridge and back.
In all a really good day and CHris is a very good instructor. Would recommend to anyone.

  3. I spent an unforgettable morning in the company of Chris and the Western Star. It allowed me to experience a few of the things which my father did daily when using engines on the farm, where he worked before the first world war; in his youth.
The event was a wonderful gift from my husband for my 60th birthday, and was the fulfillment of a long standing dream; ever since I was taken to steam rallies by my father as a very young child.
My heartfelt thanks to Chris and to his mother, Lynda, who provided the homemade shortbread to go with the lovely strong tea; brewed by Chris.
